Select Board Sets June 24 Override Vote

NAHANT — The Nahant Select Board voted unanimously to schedule a June 24 special election on a $1 million Proposition 2½ override. Members Patty Karis, Matt O'Reilly and Rob Thibault approved, by 3-0 roll call votes, both the election date and two ballot questions: the override to fund town and school operating budgets for fiscal 2027, and a charter amendment shortening the town meeting warrant posting period from 14 days to seven days. The board also approved a Memorial Day block party on Wharf Street requested by resident Sean Foley.

Town Administrator Allison called the recent annual town meeting "a successful town meeting," though she flagged lingering resident pushback on a proposed Affordable Housing Trust. Members discussed mailing postcards and building a town website parking page ahead of the override vote, noting the town's Code Red email alert system is currently unreliable. The meeting closed with a 3-0 vote to enter executive session over the "reputation or character of an elected official."
