Select Board · Meeting of August 5, 2026
Nahant Select Board moves toward a fall special town meeting on a $1 million library match. Library trustees told the board an anonymous donor has pledged a $2 million challenge grant toward a $4 million restoration of the 131-year-old library, and trustees believe they can raise another $1 million privately, a three-to-one match against the town's ask. "If this were a commercial building, I don't think it would be insurable," said Select Board member Rob Tibbo of the building's wiring and plumbing.
The board also voted, 3-0, to send a letter to MassDOT, the MBTA and the DCR over the Lynnway Multimodal Project's proposed lane reduction, and approved the hiring of officers Joseph Barber and Elizabeth Hernandez. Resident Kerry Collins countered during public comment, "All you really need to know is that the town messed up," pressing the board for equal urgency on Castle Road sidewalks.
