Nahant School Committee Approves $87,002 in Year-End Budget Transfers
School Committee · Meeting of June 9, 2026
Nahant School Committee approves $87,002 in year-end budget transfers and adopts medication carry policy. The committee voted unanimously on ten individual line-item transfers at its June 9 meeting, the largest a $20,656 shift from occupational therapy salaries to special education contracted services driven by two mid-year staff departures. A separate $33,360 transfer from special ed teacher salaries to the substitute line reflected the mid-year resignation of a special education teacher to accept a post at Hamilton-Wenham.
The committee also unanimously adopted Policy JLCDC, allowing students to self-carry medications with physician approval, drawn from a Massachusetts Association of School Committees model. The superintendent previewed a coming state-mandated cell phone restriction policy, warning that fully removing devices creates gaps in emergency communication: "Having done extensive drills on that, I think it's a little short-sighted not to have a solution from that worst-case scenario aspect." A follow-up session for final account transfers is set for June 24.
